On the evening of December 28th, 2024, Air Canada Flight 2259, operated by Provincial Aerospace Ltd. departed St. John’s International Airport. While taking off, one of the plane’s tires blew. This tire failure was detected by neither the flight crew nor the Airport. Upon landing in Halifax, the missing tire caused an imbalance which resulted in a crash landing and fire in the left engine. The accident remains under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board.
